Marquee Hire 101: Keeping Your Celebration Covered

There’s something genuinely lovely about an outdoor celebration — the fresh air, the space, the room for the kids to run about. The only catch is our wonderfully unpredictable Melbourne weather. That’s where a good marquee earns its keep.

Why bother with a marquee?

A marquee gives you a proper backup plan without losing that open-air feel. Glorious sunshine? Lovely, you’ve got shade. Surprise drizzle? No dramas, everyone stays dry and the party carries on. It also creates a clear “space” for your event, which makes the whole thing feel organised and intentional.

Sizing it up

The most common wobble we see is people underestimating how much room they need. As a rough guide, you’ll want to allow space not just for guests but for tables, a dance floor, a bar and somewhere for the caterers to work their magic. If you’re not sure, tell us your numbers and what you’ve got planned and we’ll work out the right size with you.

Handy bits to remember

• Ground type: grass, concrete or decking all affect how we set up, so let us know.
• Lighting: an evening event under a marquee looks magical with the right lighting.
• Sides on or off: open sides for a breezy summer lunch, sides on for warmth and cover.
• Access: a quick heads-up about gates, steps or tight driveways helps us plan the set-up.
